What we do

The Dog Control Coalition works across policy, professional practice, and public engagement to drive lasting change. We:

  • Promote responsible dog ownership
We support education, public awareness, and early-intervention approaches that reduce risk and improve safety before incidents occur.

  • Build the evidence base
We commission and support research into dog bites, dog control enforcement, and the real factors behind risk and harm.

  • Campaign for better laws
We push for the repeal of Breed Specific Legislation and the introduction of effective, breed-neutral dog control laws across the UK.

  • Influence policy and decision-makers
We engage with governments, MPs, and advisory groups to ensure dog control policy is evidence-based, proportionate, and focused on prevention.

  • Improve welfare and professional practice
We work to raise welfare standards for dogs affected by current legislation and support training for those responsible for enforcement and caring for seized dogs.

  • Provide an evidence base for public conversation
We challenge myths about dogs and breeds, share real-world experiences, and promote a balanced, well-informed narrative around dog control.
