Effective and sustainable UK dog control

The Dog Control Coalition (DCC) is a group of leading animal welfare organisations working together to make dog control laws in the UK more effective.

About the
Dog Control Coalition

The Dog Control Coalition work together to achieve effective evidence-led dog control laws that focus on prevention, responsible ownership, and early intervention - keeping communities safe while protecting dog welfare.

We believe the current law, including Breed Specific Legislation (BSL), does not adequately protect the public, causes unnecessary suffering to dogs and distress to their owners. Dogs are seized by the police and/or euthanised because of how they look rather than how they behave, while the real causes, and the solutions, of dog-related incidents are often overlooked. The Dog Control Coalition exists to change this.

Our members include some of the UK’s best known animal welfare charities, veterinary bodies, and canine organisations. We bring frontline knowledge and experience, policy expertise, and public education to the heart of the debate on dog control.

Our vision is a future where dog control is based on behaviour, not breed - creating safer communities and better outcomes for dogs and people alike.
